Blessing or curse? What does Yu think?

For everyone who wants to be different then the rest, Yu has one tip: “Don’t let anyone get you down. It only takes courage.” And about ‘having courage’ the Cinema Bizarre guitarist can really write a song. Because he needed whenever he went outside in his hometown Nienburg. Yu: “The city is know for many beatings going on. That’s why you shouldn’t really go outside at night. But most of the time it’s unavoidable and of course, I’ve been attacked for the way I look, more than once.” How did that happen?
“Mostly, those groups just hang around and wait for someone to come by so they can attack. First they would call names like ‘f*g’ (I HATE that word, SORRY!!!) or (Tunte???) I ignored it and they got physical and pushed me – I had to defend myself. I started (Krafttraining – I know what it is, I just can’t figure out the English word) because of it so this wouldn’t happen again.” Bad enough, to have to use violence to fight violence but it can get even worse.
“They had knifes and I still have the scars on my arms from it.” says Yu.
Even job-wise it went downhill.
“I started an education for (Masseur – what’s an English word for it?) on a school that was know for the fact that all students would find a job. They knew that, because of my style, it would be hard for me to find a job and they worried about their status. So they kicked me out. I felt completely fooled. The only good thing about it was that, I didn’t have any obligations anymore and I didn’t feel so much anger anymore.” Shortly after, Yu met his band colleagues and the frustration about being kicked out, disappeared.
“Finally, I could do something creative. Cinema Bizarre really saved me!” Nevertheless, Yu believes to have made all in all positive experiences with his look.
“Of course, many people still look at me stupidly but just as many admire me. And my style works with the ladies. Most of my ex girlfriends I found because they noticed me because of my style. And that is what really counts!”
